Gold and Silver for Euro exchange?

I am taking a vacation to Europe for 5 weeks this summer. Would it be a good idea to take some gold and silver bullion coins with me and make the exchange to Euros once I got there versus taking US dollars or using my credit card for purchases? I am thinking the smart way to go is several thousand dollars worth of silver and gold coins then sell them in Europe for Euros. Any ideas on this ?
The coins have no collectable value. They would be sold strictly for the Gold or Silver content at the current world market rate as a price per ounce. So rather than selling an ounce of gold here in the states for US dollars I would be selling an ounce of gold in Europe for Euros. Selling it is not the problem. Gold is “flying off the shelves” worldwide.

Unless you can get a lot more for your gold and silver in Europe than in the US it sounds like a bad idea. How would you plan on finding someone who would pay what the coins are really worth? What would you do for money until you found such a person? etc. If you want to sell the coins I think it would be better to do it in the US and put the proceeds in an account that you can access from an ATM in Europe.
