Gold Panning Southern California

Camping in southern California?
I am looking for somewhere in southern California where I can take my 6 year old camping for the weekend and gold pan. She did it at Knotts and liked it so I thought it would be fun.
Southern California is not particularly blessed with gold, so while there’s lots of nice places to go weekend camping around in the Southern California area, there are very few places where real gold has been found in the river. Go up San Gabriel Canyon (Highway 39 from the City of Azusa), first by road, and then by trail or upstream as far as you can go. Then maybe your 6 year old has a small shot at actually finding flakes of gold in the river. See link for ideas or what it takes to find gold in Southern California.
