Gold Price Ticker Symbol

What is the market symbol for Gold in finance markets?

I am trying to follow the prices of precious metals (Platinum, gold and silver) on a yahoo ticker, but i dont know what the code is to enter to add all three of them, it also asks for me to select Stocks, ETF, Indices, or Mutual Fund. I havent a clue what to do.

GLD is a proxy for gold and is 1/10th of the price of gold. SLV is the silver shares.

If you want to follow the sector, most brokerages use $XAU (index) to track gold. That has a number of stocks included in that sector.

On Yahoo, it’s
PHLX GOLD AND SILVER SECTOR IND (XPH:^XAU)

Now if you want futures, that’s a whole nother ballgame, but tracking GLD and XAU should be an excellent proxy.
