With what do you weigh down a filter in a fish tank?

I bought my kids a fish tank yesterday (the tank and all the gadgets in one) at a “special” price. I have washed the gravel, put the filtered water in etc and connected the air filter but the air filter keeps on bobbing to the surface. I know that you are not suppose to put foreign objects in the tank but how or with what can i safely weigh it down? There is no fish yet in the tank as I was told to wait 3 days before putting them in. It is a cold water tank for gold fish, no tropical fish.

what make of “air filter” is it? do you mean the air stone that throws out bubbles? that can be tucked into the gravel, but it you’re going to get goldfish, you’re going to need a proper filter as well, those usually stick to the side with suction cups (the new magnet things instead of suction cups are way better though!).

your tank will take 2-4 weeks before it’s ready for fish, not 3 days.

goldfish are large and messy fish, more high maintenance than they are given credit for. often tanks designed for kids are far too small for them.
