how to over clock a cpu?
My Rig:- AMD ATHLON 64X2 7750 @2.7 GHz ASUS M2N SLI DELUXE Mobo ATI RADEON HD 4850 512 MB 4 GB TRANSCEND JET RAM 800 MHz VIP GOLD PSU 500 WATTS
i overclocked my cpu with ai overclocking option in bios and i went till 10 % overclocking.
after this i over clocked manually by only increasing the FSB.
by this i went till 3.2 GHz from 2.7 GHz @ stock cooler and cpu temp was 55 – 57 which is normal for my cpu.
@ 3.2 GHz my comp booted but hangs a little bit later.
finally i kept it @ 3.16 Ghz. i used prime 95 and got an error. I immediately lowered the clock ratio
and ran prime 95 and it wasnt showing any error.
pls help me over clock on stock cooler
also let me know bout cpu coolers under 50 $ and which wud be best for for my cpu
also let me know if i over clock how much fps wud increase in gaming or wont at all.
overclocking with the stock cooler is not gonna get you far,you definitely need a aftermarket cooler to overclock that chip….do you have the 7750 black edition?its an unlocked multiplier and very easy to overclock as long as you keep increasing the vcore voltage….I has the 7850 running at 3.5ghz(17.5multiplier x 200 fsb or ht) with a vcore of about 1.4v….that voltage is fine to run at as long as the temps are good….running prime 95 my temps got to about 42c…..i was using a xigmatek s1283 rifle cpu cooler….
there under 50 bux……here is what i had….

if you get errors right away running prime 95 its usually because your voltage is to low….if you get an error after a few hours its usually the ram that caused it….so before you start overclocking go into the bios and loosen your ram timings…..if your running 5-5-5-15,set them at 6-6-6-24 til you get the clock speed you want…..then lower them and run prime95 on blend mode…..its tests more ram in that mode…..if it runs for about 3-4 hours with out an error your ram is fine…..also make sure your voltage is set correctly on them also…….that’s probably why it hung in windows 3.2ghz……
its a lot of trial and error,but keep at it and maybe find a good manual for guidance til you know more of what your doing…..
you would see a pretty good performance gain w/the 4850….i had that card and got around 13,500 on 3dmark06….at stock speeds it was around 11,700……so your gaining about 20%….what that calculates to in fps is still dependent on the game your playing……
